Costa Brava Details

In the bay of Tossa, there is a medieval walled town, The Vila Vella, and on a small promontory in the middle beach there are seven round towers with there origins estimated in the twelfth century. It is thought they were built to avoid pirate attacks.

There are the ruins  of the church and the palace of the governor of the fourteenth century. Nearby you will find the archaeological discoveries of what was once a Roman villa of the fourth century, the Roman villa of Els Ametllers. That has become a municipal museum.

The museum is also a gallery of contemporary art from around the State. Other exhibitions shown are archaeological collections, local and foreign painting, sculpture and glass.

The Montseny Natural Park is about 35km away and is part of a network of natural areas protected for their special ecological value and wealth.

In the 50s, James Mason and Ava Gardner came to the small town to film "Pandora and the Dutchman wandering” The famous artist Marc Chagall christened the town "Paradise Blue" in 1933. Tossa de Mar was one of the first towns to be incorporated in Spain and was declared a city in 1989. This example was copied by other Catalonia populations
