Paradoxically, the Mass is held in the ancient church dedicated to Saint Felix, ending the Sunday following October 29 with some fireworks. As for the fun parties, in the Parc de la Devesa allan is the “barraques” (local bars with huts) along with musical concerts, attractions, and shows, with stands for local businesses.

Throughout time the festival of San Narciso has become a festival covering all municipalities in the lower regions of the province of Girona, thus making it a more urban and traditional occasion.

“Girona Flower Time” (Girona, Temps de Flors): This is a very new event, with a promotional nature and tourist and commercial importance. It is held the third week of May.

This festival began in 1955 as a simple display of flowers in the church of San Domenech Girona, organized by the Women’s Section and the FET JONS. Throughout the years the show evolved into floral creations displayed in the church.

By the mid-’90s of the 20th century, the city council, chaired by Joaquim Nadal i Farreras, decided to make this show in San Domenech focused on a sample covering the entire city.

Therefore, there were floral displays throughout the city. The monuments of the city are decorated and the owners of the private courtyards in the Old Town are persuaded to open their space to the public during the exhibition.

Having undergone a major transformation, the show is currently known as “Girona, Temps de Flors.” At present the creators of the show fill floral classics or experimental samples. A large number of monuments and public spaces host outstanding floral creations.

Also, owners of private gardens and courtyards of the Old Town continue teaching and opening to visitors. Despite the suffering Girona has suffered due to the change in trade and tourism, this is still a time when the city opens its doors and is filled with flowers.

Fairs and Festivals of San Narciso (Fires i festes de Sant Narcis): The celebrations are held in Girona on the week that October 29 falls on, the day dedicated to St. Narciso, patron of the city. The festivities begin on Friday, prior to the reading of the passacaglia, with cries from the balcony of the council.

On the day of San Narciso, the residents celebrate with a solemn Mass dedicated to the greatest saint in the church of St. Felix of Girona, where the saint’s chapel contains his remains.
