Costa Brava Details

One of the most interesting attractions of the town is its legacy, within which there are five defensive towers which were erected against piracy. Built between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, they constitute a very characteristic element of the current urban landscape of Bagur. It has also been significantly marked by the constructions made by Begurenses who crossed the Atlantic to make a fortune in the Americas, especially Cuba.

The municipality is articulated around the core of Bagur, administrative center, which also includes Esclanya-old Romanesque-Aiguafreda, Sa Riera, Sa Tuna, Fornells and Aiguablava. Within its boundaries are some of the most prestigious beaches of the Costa Brava-Sa Riera, Aiguafreda, Sa Tuna, Playa Fonda, Fornells and Aiguablava, among others

Bagur is a Spanish municipality in the province of Gerona, located in the Catalan region of Lower Emporda.

Begur has 3986 inhabitants (as of 2005) and is an important tourist center in Lower Emporda. In summer the population exceeds 40,000.

Despite its tourists it remains an important small town that has a history that dates back to prehistoric times. In the entire municipality important remains have been found which confirm the antiquity of human settlement as its core, it was important during the feudal era.
